All of our "kids" are four-legged, and all were adopted from local animal shelters. Our cats, Tess & Mariah, prefer to stay home and sleep when we go on the road. Abbey & Jodie, however, take it as a personal insult if we ever drive anywhere without them. Abbey (the blonde) is the tallest Australian Shepherd mix we've ever seen, and she's very smart. As a Golden Retriever, Jodie relies more on pure love-of-life to befriend everyone she meets.

Abbey & Jodie

Our four-legged family:
Jodie (Golden Retriever),
Abbey (Australian Shepherd mix),
Mariah (the black cat) & Tess (Mariah's sister). Everyone meets for treats on the stairs each morning.

Abbey & Qanik
© John Ashley Abbey's fake growls get little respect from her younger cousin, Qanik.

kitty entertainment
© John Ashley Tess watches the kitty widescreen -- a birdfeeder hidden in the tree, as seen from the livingroom window sill.
Abbey & Jodie love the snow. But for some reason, wet snow balls up on Jodie's fur. Then she likes to come in and pick the snowballs off onto the carpet. Waiting for visitors

Tug-of-war
© John Ashley A dip in a California river turns into an impromptu game of tug-of-war.
Abbey & Jodie love to greet all visitors. Friends and customers appreciate this, but it wears thin on the UPS delivery man. Waiting for visitors

Sleepy dogs
© John Ashley Abbey & Jodie sleep during the long hours on the road, so they always have lots of energy when we reach our destination.
Jodie is the fastest kisser in the west. Take your eye off her and she'll plant a wet one across your face. Her unwary accomplice here (after a central California show) is our nephew, Kerway. Quick kiss

Scaredy cats
© John Ashley Unlike the dogs, our cats do not appreciate the finer points of camping. In southern CA, our "Mariah The Scared" cat meets Laura's "Sebastian The Blind" cat for the first time.
Picnic dinner after the show in Anaconda, MT, includes our girls' best friends, Cornelius & Bernard (plus Brian, Karen, Mike & Tracy). Puppy picnic

Raining cats & dogs
© John Ashley A hailstorm during a summer show sends Abbey under the table for shelter.
Jodie is a retriever of any loose item. Her favorites include stuffed animals from thrift stores. Mouth full of fluff

Summer harvest
© John Ashley Jodie loves to carry things. She helps bring in the mail every day, and she carries tomatoes in from the garden in late summer.
"The girls" wait on the tailgate while we're packing up the truck for the next show. Tailgaters
